Back to School Tip 4: Get your routine back.

Back to school is here again! How did that happen? Summer just flew by. Transitioning from summer to fall can be daunting, especially when you are working mom trying to balance work expectations with the needs of your children and household. As working moms, it feels like there is no easy way to do this, keep a clear head, and stay on task. Each day for the next five days we will be offering tips to help WOWFED Moms survive the back to school season.

Tip 4: Get your routine back.

During the summer our routines are typically off, because we have so much going on, and it can feel like a complete blur. Activities, camp, and work will run you, instead of you running them.  Take this opportunity to welcome the structure that the school year brings to our lives. Although it can be a struggle, it helps us return to normalcy.

Allow yourself some room to return to normalcy by practicing earlier bedtimes and waking times at least a week before school starts. This will get both parents and kids back on schedule. Create a family calendar with upcoming school activities, and your work schedule to makes sure that all planets are aligned, and if not, this gives you time to come up with a plan to cover any gaps.
